They refused to take the call.
After I chuckled at this, I grabbed some coffee to ponder the current sentiment settling like a fine mist among many who have added “being okay with record breaking oil prices” to the list of virtue signal items.
“I’m okay with paying more for oil to support Ukraine.”
Nobel. Virtuous. And on the surface, understandable. Ukraine, indeed, deserves our support.
But it’s not just the gas in your car this affects; this unbelievable surge in oil prices hits practically every sector of our economy. It weakens our strength.
But along with the oil virtue signaling comes the excuse that (and this one is a real brain scratcher) the President of the United States has no control over oil prices.
‘What can he do? He’s only the President of the United States???”
If I had a margarita for every time I’ve heard that particular excuse, I’d be flat on the floor for a week. (Newsflash: the President of the United States apparently has no control over the creation and manufacturing of new vaccines, either, and yet, we rolled out a Covid vaccine in record time when experts said, and I quote, “it would take a miracle.”)
OF COURSE the President of the United States comes into play with energy prices, as evidenced by his attempt at contacting Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. (“Sorry, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are can’t make it to the phone. They’re, uh, in the shower. Can we take a message?”)
SIDE NOTE:
VP Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg were in front of the cameras yesterday pushing e-vehicles.
Buy an electric car. Problem solved.
Slow down there, skippy.
A lot of people can’t afford a Tesla.
Heck, people can't even afford a new car. Or a used care.
And that's if they can even FIND a car to purchase.
It’s weird to me that the same voices raised with demands of a $15 minimum wage increase for the single working mother of two are suddenly silent about increased gas and food prices.
And when they do speak, it's with the advice to "Buy an electric car."
Talk about tone deaf.
It's the equivalent of "let them eat cake."
<cue Kamala laugh>
Sure, the President of the United States can’t control world events, but he CAN control what happens here at home. For example, he does so when he enacts new regulations that add financial restraints to drilling and production. You think those costs are swallowed up by the corporations? Nope. They are passed on to the consumer. Just like EVERY OTHER BUSINESS on the planet.
Your cost of goods and services goes UP, so do your prices.
The President of the United States is a leader. He arranges meetings; he has sit downs; he brokers deals; he gets relevant parties at the table to talk.
Whether it be unloading cargo ships that have floated for months waiting to be unloaded at US ports or doing what needs to be done to get domestic oil production flowing at a greater speed, he DOES it. He presides over everything that affects this great country of ours.
That is, literally, his job.
Why we are at this time importing oil from ANYONE, much less adversarial countries, is beyond belief. We are sitting on so much oil in this country and just TWO years ago, we were exporting it.
That’s right, kids. In 2020, in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis, the US exported more petroleum than it imported for the first time since 1949. That didn’t just happen.
This notion from our President that the United States is helpless when it comes to oil prices is pure and utter nonsense.
So, ban Russian oil. Fine.
But offer a replacement.
All Biden has to say is, "Hey, I am still committed to zero carbon emissions (to please the Progressives) but these are extraordinary times.
THIS is now an emergency.
So, as of today, we are increasing US output.
We will not be held hostage to foreign adversaries for oil when we can be energy dependent."
That's all he had to say. That's all he had to do. We were JUST energy independent recently; we can do it again.
But he hasn’t...he hasn’t done any of it, which makes anyone with brain activity higher than that of a fruit fly wonder…is this failure to act born of incompetence? Or by design?
After all, what can he do? He’s just the President of the United States.
Seems the last time gas was this high, the same guy was in the White House... hmmmm....
It's like shooting ourselves in the foot.
